Poems
There are many poems that families can choose from for their loved ones funeral service. I personally feel that a poem or a reading can bring a nice personal touch to a service. When we lose a loved one we may find it difficult to say how we are feeling. I have listed on this page various poems that I personally like and feel adds a nice meaningful touch to a service. You, personally may not like any of the poems on this page, however there are many poems that you can find online.
The Broken Chain
We little knew the day that
God was going to call your name
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn’t go alone.
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories.
Your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one
The chain will link again.
He Is Gone
You can shed tears that he is gone
Or you can smile because he has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left
Your heart can be empty because you can't see him
Or you can be full of the love that you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember him and only that he is gone
Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what he would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
Do not cry nor weep for me,
Now that my life on Earth is done.
I have gone on to a better place
With the setting of the sun.
I passed through a heavenly doorway,
But the door is left ajar.
And although you cannot see me
I have really not gone far.
My Earthly life is over.
I am free from hurt and pain
And now I wait in perfect peace
Until we meet again
Loved ones are never divided,
Some simply go on before
And there with sweet anticipation
They eye the Open Door.
The Open Door
You meant so much to all of us
You were so special and that’s no lie
You brightened up the darkest day
And the cloudiest sky.
Your smile alone warmed hearts
You laugh was like music to hear
I would give absolutely anything
To have you well and standing near
Not a second passes
When you’re not on our minds
Your love we will never forget
The hurt will ease in time
Many tears I have seen and cried
They have all poured out like rain
I know that you are happy now
And no longer in any pain.
You Meant So Much
We Remember Her
When we are weary and in need of strength,
When we are lost and sick at heart,
We remember her.
When we have a joy we crave to share
When we have decisions that are difficult to make
When we have achievements that are based on her
We remember her.
At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter
At the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of spring,
We remember her.
At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of summer
At the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of autumn,
We remember her.
At the rising of the sun and at its setting,
We remember her.
As long as we live, she too will live
For she is now a part of us,
As we remember her.
My Mother kept a garden.
A garden of the heart;
She planted all the good things,
That gave my life it’s start.
She turned me to the sunshine,
And encouraged me to dream:
Fostering and nurturing
The seeds of self-esteem.
And when the winds and rains came,
She protected me enough;
But not too much, she knew I’d need
To stand up strong and tough.
Her constant good example,
Always taught me right from wrong;
Markers for my pathway
To last my whole life long.
I am my Mother’s garden,
I am her legacy.
And I hope today she feels the love,
Reflected back from me.
